I just installed the Whipple HO with IC a few days ago. I have an XCAL -2 with a tune that the vendor gave me on it. It seems like it lags and doesn't quite give the power it should.
I have a few issues..First problem is I live in Alaska and we have no Dyno in the state...Can you still help me?
I started to data log timing during a WOT 2nd gear and 3rd gear pull since I suspected knock and timing pull. The best fuel we can get up here is 90 octane...Anyway timing starts at 16 degrees and slowly steps up to a peak of 20.75 degrees before redline. Both 2nd and 3rd do the same.
If I was seeing knock I should be logging dips in the timing advance correct?
So my other problem is when I shift say from 2nd to 3rd there is a delay that is about 1/4 second or more before the power comes on again.
I have not tried the tune that Whipple sends out yet just the one loaded on the XCAL2 from the vendor.
Can you help me out with your services??

I can definitely tune that car. Ideally you want to log the knock sensor to see if it really is knocking. If you can datalog with a wideband O2 we can get the tune dialed in even further. 90 octane will require a conservative timing curve. I would also like to know if there is any ethanol in your fuel.

I tried to log the knock sensors but the values come out 0. So I am thinking they are not doing knock globally maybe but per cyl?
What values on the SCT XCAL2 should I try to log for knock for you?
Anyway hotter day today in the 70's timing starts at 14 degrees around 3200 and climbs to 18 by redline. I see no pull backs during the climb so if it was knocking she would be pulling 6 degrees according to the retard limit...I think!!
When it was in the 50-60 range timing seems to go to 20.5 degrees.
I'm not sure if there is ethanol I will check.
I do not have a wideband...Wish I did...I'm sort of old school and still use readings from the stock O2's.
Keep in mind our outside temps here in this part of Alaska rarely hit 80...50-70 is a regular summer. Pretty sweet on the track because they heat the first 250 feet yet it might be 50 outside so you get some nice pulls.
I would like to continue to work with you after our first tune because I will be adding a water/meth injection kit. I usually add water/meth to my turbo cars and find I can run tunes good up to 100 octane still on the pump gas.
Please call me or I will call you Monday. I want to get what ever you can sell me ASAP. The email I sent you yesterday has my phone number if you want to call me. Today works to if your working.

Well I went out a logged every item related to knock. I am reading 0 knock activity so I guess this 90 octane is holding fine with the 91 tune. 68 degrees during testing. I even stopped and let it heat soak then did a 4th gear pull from 2800rpm not a single reading on the sensors. Low timing was 14 high was 19 and a nice steady climb as rpms climbed.
I'm looking forward to working with you. Thanks for you time.

For future reference, you should be able to log actual knock retard by monitoring KS ADD [0], your tune should be set to global knock retard so this single parameter will work.
Also, I don't rely 100% on knock sensors.
