Description

Email Custom Tune file pricing for NA vehicles that are stock or have basic bolt ons: 1 file for $59, 2 for $99, or 3 for $129

If you already have an SCT handheld flash tuner such as the X-Cal2, X3, or Livewire we can E-MAIL you a custom tune file for your vehicle.

Email custom tune files are available to everyone. If you are a previous customer and outside of the 6 month support range, it is $59 to update all three of your tunes for a new modification (not new vehicle), must specify in tune requests section when ordering.

E-mail tune files are available for most 1996 through 2009 Ford vehicles that are stock or have bolt-on type modifications. (94-95 OBD2 3.8L Mustang also supported). Additional charge required for 03/04 Cobras which includes 3 datalog reviews and tune revisions. Additional charge for head, cam, or transmission swaps.

We can tune for different cold air intakes on 05+ Mustangs and 04+ F150s. Any aftermarket intake that flows well and puts the slot-style MAF sensor into a larger less restrictive housing is going to REQUIRE a tune for the vehicle to run properly. Intakes that do not require a tune are often just as restrictive as stock and do not result in large power gains.

Improvements from VMP custom tunes (varies by application):

  • Firmer and faster shifting for automatic trans vehicles, slightly firmer at part throttle, much firmer at WOT.
  • Removed speed limiter (do not exceed tire or driveshaft rating)
  • Safely raised rev limiter 200-400RPM.
  • Advaced timing for improved response and power at all RPM ranges
  • Optimized air fuel ratio for more power at WOT
  • Permanently turn traction control off (specify when ordering)
  • Turn shift light off (specify when ordering)
  • Tow tunes that increase fuel economy and reduce trans temps while towing
  • Torque converter lockup at WOT for more power to the wheels
  • Optimized engine fan cooling on/off temperatures for less heat-soak
  • And much much more depending on the individual vehicle...

Our tunes greatly improve driveability and power at all throttle positions. We tune for all around driveability, not just WOT performance. We feel that a good tune offers low-end "Torque" and "Race" type WOT performance all in one.

We will email tunes for factory supercharged vehicles like the 03-04 Cobra (additional charge), 99-04 F-150 Lightning, and GT500 (see GT500 section) . If you have an aftermarket supercharger or turbocharger your vehicle will require more extensive tuning, but you can order a temp tune from this page if you just need something to drive on. We have extensive experience tuning a wide range of Ford Vehicles, we apply our dyno-tuning experience to all our email and mail order tunes. You can see a sampling of the vehicles we have dyno-tuned in our dyno-tune archive.

If you have deleted systems from the vehicle or have swapped the engine into a different car we are able to turn off certain check engine light codes, specify items removed and codes present when ordering.

Specify the MILEAGE / ECONOMY option when ordering and we will optimize the tune for fuel economy when cruising while still providing excellent Wide Open Throttle power. Our regular performance tunes DO NOT sacrifice power for economy. Our regular performance tunes may actually improve mileage slightly due to increased timing and increased efficiency. We are able to make special changes to further increase fuel economy by 1-2MPG. The moderate economy option will be nearly seamless to the driver. With the agressive economy option some drivers may notice slightly decreased part throttle power and response. When ordering multiple tunes you may only apply the economy changes to one tune by mentioning this in the tune requests field.

Ordering Options:

  • Please tell us where you heard about VMP.
  • Select 2nd or 3rd file if you want to order more than one tune.
  • Enter vehicle year
  • Enter your vehicles engine
  • Select your trans type (auto or manual)
  • Required upcharge if you have an 03/04 Cobra (includes 3 adjustments)
  • Enter your 4 digit computer code or 7 digit strategy as read by tuner under "Vehicle Info" menu
  • Enter the octane you would like the tune for. Premium 91-93 for best performance.
  • We can email most tunes in racer/dealer format for an extra charge.
  • Enter vehicle modifications and any special tune request. (email Justin if there is not enough room, include order # and/or name).
  • Enter your X-Cal2, X3, or Livewire Serial Number when ordering. If the sticker is worn off plug the unit in and scroll down to device info and hit select twice to find the serial number. If no serial number is present use the Live Load 3 program to assign one by hitting "Set Serial Number"
  • Select yes if you have swapped a different engine into your car, swapped heads, swapped auto transmissions, or swapped cam(s).
  • Select MILEAGE/ECONOMY option: Regular, Moderate, or Agressive
  • Many areas now have 10% ethanol mixed into the fuel, often called "E10". Ethanol has a much lower energy content than gasoline, and effectively leans out the air fuel ratio, as much as .3-.5 A/F when there is a full 10% present. If your area does not use E10 at all select "No", if you think it may use E10 or the pumps say "up to 10% ethanol" select "Maybe", if you are sure all the fuel is a full 10% ethanol select "Yes".

Normal custom tune delivery time is 5-10 business days minimum.

EXPEDITE ORDER OPTION
We can expedite your order so you receive the tune file by the next business day. Select this option when ordering, and then email Justin@VMPTuning.com after you have ordered with your name and/or order number. You must contact Justin by email for the order to be expedited.

SCT flasher on-device adjustments:

  • Your email tune file will include on-device adjustments (click for available parameter list)
  • You may adjust for different gears or tires on 99+ vehicles only.
  • Automatic cars may firm up or soften the shift points at all throttle positions.
  • Automatic cars may increase or decrease WOT shift point RPM.
  • We safely raise the rev limiters, we do not recommending increasing it further.
  • The speed limiter is removed, don't exceed the speed rating of your tires or driveshaft.

Support:

  • All email tune files include ONE update at no charge and ONE datalog review (if necessary) at no charge.
  • We will also review a dynograph and make adjustments once at no charge.

Additional information:

  • Your vehicle should be in good mechanical condition and maintenance up to date.
  • Never over-oil a KN type filter. If you have recently oiled the filter the MAF sensor element should be cleaned.
  • Spark plugs gapped down to .030-.035" are a must for any vehicle with a supercharger or turbocharger.
  • If you have an 07+ F150 you will need the latest X2 firmware from SCT

How to load the tune onto an X-Cal2:
Download and install Live Load 3 from the SCT website, this program has been updated recently. The X-Cal2 connects to your PC with a standard USB A to B cable, the port is on the bottom of the X-Cal2 (not top). The first time you plug the flasher into your PC, Windows will detect it and install drivers. If Windows asks to look for drivers on the internet select yes. If that does not work you may have to download drivers from SCT's website. We will send you an email with your tune attached as a .CEF file. When you receive this email, save the attachment to a directory that you will be able to find (i.e. the Desktop). If you have an older X2 you may need to download the Live Update 2 program and the 1.14 firmware file (use 1.15 for 07+ F150 only) and install on the device.

Run the Live Load 3 program with the flasher connected to your PC. Click on the browse button in the upper right hand corner. Select the file that you saved from the email. Select the file position on the device (File 1, 2, or 3) and enter a short description. Click the "Add File" button. When programming is finished you can disconnect the X-Cal2 from your PC and program the car. We do not recommend pulling any fuses when flashing the vehicle. The X-Cal2 instructions can be found here. You do not have to go back to stock when flashing a tune onto the vehicle.

To check the Locked or Unlocked status of your X-Cal2 connect it to your PC and run the Live Load 3 program. In the middle of the screen it will tell you the firmware version, state (locked or unlocked), and program currently loaded on the vehicle (0 for stock, 1, 2, or 3 for aftermarket tunes). If the prog=stock (original vehicle flashed back to stock) and the tuner is locked you can click the "Unlock Device" button, the tuner can now be used on another vehicle. If you have a 9415 SF and are loading a custom tune onto the device you will first need to return the vehicle to stock and then click the "Erase Device" button to make room for the custom file(s).

You may also check the status of an X-Cal2 by plugging it into a vehicle, and scrolling down to device info. STAT=Aftermarket, vehicle has not been returned to stock, the fee to have us send the tuner to SCT for unlock is $180, this may be ordered here. STAT=stock tuner is ready to be unlocked with Live Load. STAT=un-used tuner is unlocked and ready to be used.

How to load the tune onto a Livewire or X3:
Download and install X3/Livewire Updater from the SCT website. The Livewire connects to your PC with a mini USB cable (included in the LW box), the port is on the bottom of the LW. Go to Start>Program Files>SCT and run the X3/Livewire Updater program with the flasher connected to your PC. Click on the Live Load Tunes button. Connect the LW or X3 and hit okay, a new window will open up Click the browse button and select the CEF file you wish to load, choose a position for it. Click the program button. When the file is done you may load additional files.

We do not recommend pulling any fuses when flashing the vehicle. You do not have to go back to stock when flashing a tune onto the vehicle.

*There are absolutely no refunds on custom tuning. Tuning labor is not refundable, modified vehicles can be highly variable and have different problems and issues that may be difficult to diagnose over the internet. We will work with you to solve any issues with your vehicle but you must be able to datalog if necessary, all datalogging support is handled via email.
